Hungarian Walnut Strudel Recipe (Diós Rétes)

Hungarian Diós Rétes is a traditional walnut strudel made with delicate, flaky pastry and a rich walnut filling. The combination of finely ground walnuts, sugar, vanilla, and buttery pastry creates a comforting dessert that is especially wonderful when served warm with a cup of coffee.

Rétes is a beloved part of Hungarian baking traditions, and the walnut version is one of the classic varieties. Although homemade strudel dough can be stretched very thin by hand, using ready-made filo pastry makes this recipe much easier while still giving you beautifully crisp layers.
