Hungarian Apple Cake

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Toss the sliced apples with cinnamon, sugar, and lemon juice. Set aside.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Beat the butter and sugar until light and creamy. Add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until smooth.
  6. Spread half of the batter into the prepared pan.
  7. Arrange half of the apple slices evenly over the batter.
  8. Spread the remaining batter over the apples, then arrange the remaining apples on top.
  9. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted into the cake comes out clean.
  10. Warm the apricot jam slightly and brush it over the warm cake.
  11. Allow the cake to cool completely.
  12. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.
