Traditional Hungarian Apricot Kolaches

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and creamy.
  2. Add the egg yolks, sour cream, and vanilla. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
  4. Wrap the dough and refrigerate for 30–60 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Roll the chilled dough on a lightly floured surface to about ⅛-inch thick.
  7. Cut the dough into small squares or circles.
  8. Place about 1 teaspoon of apricot jam in the center of each piece.
  9. Fold and seal the edges carefully.
  10. Place the kolaches on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  11. Bake for 12–16 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  12. Cool slightly, then dust generously with powdered sugar.
